CAPRICIILE IELELOR
CAPRICE OF THE FAIRIES
Caprice of the Fairies was carried out in 1976 by Elod Kocsis. The modular elements of the sculpture give it a baroque air. Sharp shapes that give the impression of a chaotic, unpredictable setting, like the fairies in our mythology, feminine creatures we cannot distinguish precisely. They are not evil creatures and only get revenge if they are wronged, the sculptor trying to highlight the need for a balance between the city and the old river. |
RECEPTOR

FLIGHT CALL
The sculpture was made in 1977 by Silviu Catargiu, a Galaţi sculptor by adoption, who graduated from Ion Andreescu Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca. The aerodynamic shape and the supple line create the feeling of exaltation. The lower part of the work, created from overlapped cones, framed by two wings, out of which four other cones emerge, supporting two upper pyramid tiles surrounded by two scarves, suggest the flight. The flight expresses a desire to seek inner harmony, to overcome conflicts. It is a symbol of ascension of the mind, soul, while symbolising the desire for freedom. |
CONFLUENCES
The work was made in 1977 by Manuela Siclodi at the metal sculpture camp in Galaţi. She was born in 1946 and studied sculpture at Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts. The composition is an absolutely perfect whole, consisting of four harmoniously arranged pieces. The sculpture is remarkable in terms of its vertical pieces, which abstractly depict the communion between man and woman, while the horizontal pieces on the base symbolize the soul of the two, the soul which is the mirror of each man’s personality. Its placement on the bank of the river is not random, it symbolizes the communion between the human being and nature. |
ICAR
ICARUS
Icarus is one of the sculptures that were created in the metal sculpture camp in 1977 by the artist Olteanu Stîncă Aurel. Icarus is known as Daedalus' son, who flew too close to the Sun, with whom he created the maze of Crete where King Minos closed the Minotaur, a monster that was half-man half-bull, which was fed with human sacrifices. The sculpture was designed to meet one of the greatest desires of man: to fly. Icarus is the symbol of man who wants to overcome his own limits, but the rush and excess of zeal make him fail on his way to fulfilling his dreams. The legend of Icarus can be considered a very important lesson for the most courageous and eager for change among us to change and to make them better calculate their steps in order to achieve their goals. |
ATTEMPT
The work was carried out in 1976 by Constantin Popovici, the son of the sculptor Ion Grigore Popovici and the painter Nadia Popovici. This metal sculpture placed on a concrete base symbolizes the gull's effort to ascend, to rise from the ground and, on the other hand, the feeling of collapse. The symbolism of the bird involves a world situated in the interval, the meeting place of the human being with sacredness. Any symbol is assigned individuality in its complexity, because it addresses both intelligence and affectivity. The symbol is the expression of man’s personality conscious of his belonging to a totality, which determines the activity of the subconscious and the manifestation of spiritual life. |
FATHER AND SON
The sculpture was made by the late Gheorghe Apostu, who also created The Fruit of the Sun, at the same camp, a work that is on the upper river cliff. The work was erected to commemorate the victims that have been produced over the years by the foamy waves of the Danube. On the other hand, it can be considered a symbol of the cyclic character of life: birth, death and regeneration. Another idea suggested by the sculpture is that of the evolution of the human being, which takes place in the middle of nature, in harmonious communion with it. |
FRUCTUL SOARELUI
THE FRUIT OF THE SUN
The Fruit of the Sun was made in 1977 by Gheoghe Apostu, a sculptor from Bacău, who was noted for his wooden sculptures, but who managed to change the sober face of iron through his creations, which is why he is considered the second Romanian sculptor after Constantin Brâncuşi. The work consists of a vertical shaft that supports the spoke of a wheel and dominates the landscape due to its height and monumentality. The sculpture can also represent a circle that has a point in its center. This is the symbol of the Sun which in astronomy is considered the centre of the universe, around which and from where everything starts. |
SOUL ON THE WATER
Soul on the Water was made by sculptor Aurel Vlad, a representative of postmodernism in Romanian art, who tackled problems related to the existence of contemporary man. The sculpture presents the form of a man with his head down using the fretwork technique. |
